Kalmar strengthens cooperation with the South Carolina Ports Authority with order for empty container handlers

CARGOTEC CORPORATION, PRESS RELEASE, 13 SEPTEMBER 2016 AT 9 AM (EEST)

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has received a follow-up order from the South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) for 12 empty container handlers including five used machine trade-ins, to the SCPA Charleston area port facilities. Delivery is set for the first quarter of 2017.

"The order marks the continuing cooperation between Kalmar and the SCPA for a wide-range of equipment. The container handlers will help meet growing volumes at our Wando and North Charleston terminals as well as the South Carolina Inland Port terminal in Greer, South Carolina. Our continued confidence in Kalmar is also backed by the availability of Kalmar's local service and support," says Stevenson Kemp, Jr., Director of Terminal Operations SCPA.

The SCPA handled 1.9 million TEUs during the 2016 financial year ending June 30, marking an increase of 1.4% over the previous year. Container volumes moving inland via intermodal transport has also increased, with the Greer inland terminal seeing an increase of 57% to 91,698 rail moves for FY2016.

Vincent Hruska, Sales Manager, Kalmar Counterbalanced Equipment, adds: "Kalmar's equipment is designed to bring greater efficiency and possibilities to our customer's operations. The addition of our new service center in Charleston will support the SCPA and other customers in the southeast region."

The order includes 11 Kalmar DCF90-45E7 empty container handlers and one DCF90-45E8 empty container handler with capacities of nine metric tons (19,800 lbs.), designed for heavy-duty strength and stability. The equipment will join a fleet of 35 Kalmar empty and loaded container handlers already in use at SCPA facilities.
